How to shoot food photography like a pro with guest Joanie Simon
Joanie Simon is a commercial food photographer, educator and YouTuber based in Phoenix, Arizona. Her love of food came before the camera. She picked up her first DSLR in 2009 and discovered the art of food photography. By 2015, Joanie left her day job to pursue food and photography full time.
Today, she works out of her home studio, which includes a dedicated kitchen for staging products and recipes for her clients. She also creates crave-able images with a variety of hospitality clients including regional and national restaurant groups.
In 2017 Joanie launched a YouTube channel, The Bite Shot, offering education for other photographers and bloggers looking to advance their food photography skills. It has become an active community serving thousands of photographers through weekly tutorials and in-depth online courses.
When she’s not behind or in front of the camera, Joanie is spending time with her husband and two young boys. They occasionally assist Joanie in the studio and are some of the youngest digital techs manning the shutter through Capture One. They are also used to having leftovers.
