Niki Boon is a former physiotherapist, mother and self-taught photographer, living with her family in rural Marlborough New Zealand. Her photography focuses on her family and environment.

Niki grew up on a farm in rural New Zealand, with a childhood barefoot, wild and free. In part, her photographic work pulls from her childhood freedoms and adventures that still exist so strongly in her mind.

Today her family live on a small block of land where she strives to replicate that childhood for her children.

In this episode, we chat about:

  • How homeschooling her children and wanting to record the experience as a way of validating it was the catalyst for her photography career
  • How it feels to go from obscurity to world stage relatively quickly and how it influenced her work
  • The positive and negative side of attention
